Pell'avra Khalael

The only child of high councilman Tyr Khalael and his late wife Evra, Pellavra spent her youth enjoying the luxury afforded to the highest ranking of their clan including weapons training from the best warriors in the clan if she so desired. Any plans she might have had were shattered on the emergence of sudden and uncontrollable magical abilities. In her fifteenth year she was discovered in the middle of the great hall, surrounded by the corpses of half a dozen of the high council’s finest warriors, their various parts strewn about the palace and Pell'avra herself claiming to have woken there to the same scene.

What followed was nearly two decades of attempted study, tutors coming and going as they attempted to show her how to contain and control the outbursts of magic but even after twenty years of study they were only ever partially successful. Pell prefers not to use her magic if at all possible and will only resort to intentional casting in emergencies or when the build up of magic within her demands it. The unpredictable nature of her affliction drove her to self-inflicted isolation from her expected place within the elven council or within the ranks of its warriors. Instead, she sought to sequester herself away with a little known sect of warrior-priests, devoting herself to their cause in the misguided hope that it would give a focus for her wild magic.

It wasn't until she arrived on the steps of the ancient Astrian temple hidden away in the Fractured Peaks mountain range that her true calling became clear. Two elderly priests were all that was left of the Guardians, a sect that the legendary Alexander The Guardian Of Ariak had formed nearly three hundred years ago to watch over the mystical blade, Sha'dian. Though the elderly priests welcomed Pell'avra with great relief, it took them several years to teach her all that was needed to carry on the burden of caring for such a dangerous relic. The sword, Sha'dian was the very embodiment of all things evil, a relic of a bygone age filled with gods, goddesses, magic and mystery. By the time that age and the bitter cold of winter claimed the last of the elder priests, Pell'avra had already been bound to her role as Soul Guardian, protector of Sha'dian.

For months she trekked through the jagged, treacherous terrain, seeking a better place to hide the embodiment of all evil away from the world as she was bade by her mentors, all the while suffering the effects of the waning seal on the magical blade. It sang to her of blood, death, decay and hatred as she slept, drinking from the wellspring of magic that lived within her soul, seeking to drain and corrupt. Finally, when she could take no more she would stop, bury the blade beneath the frozen soil and rock, seeking refuge in distance while she recovered, only to return again and again, seeking some way to ensure that Ariak would be safe from the threat posed by the ancient weapon.
